A new V&A exhibition on photographer Tim Walker

Tim Walker

In a new exhibition opening in September, the V&A will showcase the largest-ever collection of fashion photographer Tim Walker's work, along with over 150 new works inspired by the museum's collection. Walker's career began at Condé Nast in the 1980s; his distinctive, extravagantly-staged photographs have appeared in the likes of Vogue, LOVE Magazine and W, and his work is held by the National Portrait Gallery as well as the V&A.

Designed by Walker's long-term collaborator Shona Heath, the exhibition brings together over 300 items, from photographs to scrapbooks. At the heart of Tim Walker: Wonderful Things are 10 major new photographic projects directly influenced by treasures in the V&A's vast collection. Each of the new works is held in its own room, and objects from the V&A are displayed alongside the photographs they inspired.

The exhibition will also feature many of Walker's earlier works and celebrate the contributions of his collaborators and muses, from Alexander McQueen to Lily Cole. Whether it's his fashion photography or celebrity portraits that interest you, or the chance to see a provocative artist engaging with the beautiful and eclectic variety of objects housed by the V&A, this is an exhibition that's not to be missed.
