In 2017 the Tate Modern gave the public a once-in-a-lifetime chance to see one of the world's greatest private collections of photography. The works in The Radical Eye: Modernist Photography from The Sir Elton John Collection were drawn mainly from the classic modernist period of the 1920s-50s, with an incredible group of Man Ray portraits exhibited together for the first time, and nearly 150 rare vintage prints from seminal figures in photography including Brassai, Imogen Cunningham, André Kertész, Dorothea Lange, Tina Modotti, and Aleksandr Rodchenko. Sir Elton began collecting after he gave up drinking over 25 years ago. As Rocket Man, the biopic of the star's life is released, we revisit this tour of his home and and collection.
